6 Closet Essentials You Shouldn’t Go Without!
Hangers
I particularly love these velvet ones. They are so thin and not bulky so they take up very little space in your closet. They grip your clothing so things don’t fall off.
Having matching hangers in your closet creates a sense of organization right off the bat because the look is streamlined and you’re less likely to find your precious clothing items strewn across the floor!
Steamer
Steamers are so much easier to use than an iron. I find that I am able to wear things a lot more than I might if I had to pull out a full iron and ironing board.
I keep my steamer under my bathroom sink so when I am ready to wear something, I can bring it out and it heats up in only a minute. This is a much easier task for a busy morning than ironing would be.
Wax Paper
This is a pretty well kept personal stylist secret, but I am letting you in on the details! Why would you ever have wax paper in your closet?
Well, the reason is that it is awesome for waxing your clothing rods in the closet so the hangers slide really easily back and forth. It just gives you a slightly elevated closet experience.
Shoe Storage
A lot of my clients have started out by organizing their shoes in their original boxes. What I have found is that if you store your shoes in their boxes, you don’t see what you actually have. It’s happened so many times where a client is so sure that they know all their shoes, but we start organizing their closet and they find things they totally forgot about!
A shelf is so nice for displaying your shoes and making it easy to see what you have. I like to categorize my shoes by type (flats together etc). Some people really enjoy sorting them by color. It’s really up to you how you want to organize them, but having a shelf makes it so you can see all of the shoes you own!
Full-Length Mirror
I cannot believe how many people don’t have a full length mirror? I find this to be so essential to getting dressed in the morning and putting a well-designed outfit together.
Good Lighting
If you can’t see what you’re wearing, how do you see if your colors are coordinating well or if you have stains on an item of clothing? If you can possibly have natural lighting that is the best but just make sure you have a decent amount of lighting where you’re getting dressed at.
With these awesome closet foundation items, you will be on your way to a happy and well-organized closet in no time!
