Brow Styling

You see I was not born with those perfect eyebrows, that I see gracing my friends faces.
I had terrible brows until after college, I am not sure why no one told me this?
Maybe my cute clothes distracted them from my face? Let’s hope that was it 😉

Now I have seen the light…
I am in love with eyebrow waxing and shaping,
it can change the whole look of your face.
And why not have gorgous brows framing those gorgeous eyes?

Recently through a friend (thanks Gina) I was lucky enough to meet Nikki.
Nikki has been doing eyebrows for about 11 years.
She was trained by the best of the best in the eyebrow business Anastasia Of Beverly Hills.
Have you heard of Anastasia?
She is only the brow artist of Oprah,  Kim Kardashian, Julianne Moroe, and many others
She developed her very own brow shaping technique and has salons just for eyebrow in Beverly Hills.

I took some photos of myself while Nikki did my eyebrows.
(you know I love you if I am showing you these!!)
She starts with measuring your brow for the start, arch and tail.
Then moves on to the stencil that best fits your shape.

Once this stencil is on the brow she fills it in with dark powder, then removes the stencil. My brows are filled in with dark powder I am not Groucho Marx 😉

Then she begins to wax the brow in to remove the hair outside the stencil line.

After this she trims the hair and assures it is all lying in the correct direction.

Super cool tip, you know how you get little bums after waxing?
Nikki puts a solution of Salicylic acid on your brows to prevent that,
and guess what it totally works.

So if you live in an area that you have access to Nordstrom you can make an appointment with any of their brow people and get the perfect brow. If you don’t live close to Nordstrom or you are a Do It Yourself kinda girl you can purchase the stencils and kit here..

Nikki recently left Nordstrom so she could do the full estetion treatments like facials etc…
She recommend brow shaping every 4-6 weeks depending on your hair growth.

Guest Post Hair-Scription No.1 Tangles

Have I ever mentioned that I have the worlds best hair dresser? 
Seriously, I am not kidding.
I am just sad I found her  only a year and a half ago.
She is amazing, she truly understands hair and it shows. 
The first time I went to her I was blown away. 
She was telling me all these things about my hair,
things I should and shouldn’t be doing and I was like… wow no one has ever taken this time to tell me all this in my 35++ years of getting my hair cut.
And she wasn’t just selling me products she was telling me amazing secrets!
Now I have recommended several friends and clients with troubled hair.
They feel the same way I do.
They love her and are so mad that they settled with an okay hair dresser for so long.
Hair is SUCH an important part of your style, a bad haircut or color is not easy to hide!
And can take a long time to fix.
So, I asked my wonderful amazing talented friend and hairdresser to write a monthly column.

Tangles

Advice: Never, ever use a brush on wet hair, EVER.   Using a brush on wet hair creates more tangles that can become a vicious cycle and a hard habit to break.  Get it, break?  That is what happens to the hair if a brush is used, whenever the hair is wet, it breaks.

Why: When you put tension on wet hair, such as during wet brushing; the hair is fragile and vulnerable to damage because the hairs’ tensile strength and elasticity are over stretched to its breaking point.  Wet hair can be stretched 40-50% of its length.  Dry hair is capable of being stretched about one-fifth its length.

Technique: After shampooing, rinse well, wring out as much water as you can, apply conditioner and let set (3-5 minutes for daily conditioner, 5-7 for deep conditioner). Place hair directly under the shower heads’ stream of running water, use a wide tooth comb, start combing at the very ends, gradually working toward the mid-shaft and eventually towards scalp area, while simultaneously rinsing the conditioner out. The comb should glide through the hair without catching.

Tool box: Wide tooth comb, with only a single row of teeth. Buy a good quality handmade Resin comb with no seams, no nicks in the teeth no flimsy backbone.  The entire comb should be smooth.  Cost just under $25. – don’t gasp, your hair will love you for it.

    •    Mason Pearson Rake Comb is an excellent snag – wink.   

    •    Lightweight leave in conditioner applied after every shampoo, like Unite 7  seconds. 

    •    Be patient, healthy hair is always worth it.
