One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is our annual “Gingerbread House Extravaganza“
We invite all the kiddos’ friends and prepare enough supplies for approximately 50!
Even though my littles aren’t so little anymore they still look forward to this party every year.
We really have such a lovely time that I thought I’d share it with you so that, if you desire, you can whip a little Gingerbread House Party together for your friends and family!
Huge SHOUT OUT to the lovely Connie Hanks for shooting this year’s get together for us!!
Day Before Event
1. I make all the pieces for the houses. Each house is made of three graham cracker angles (see photo above). To make the angles I simply melt graduated sugar in a sauce pan. The sugar becomes a thick sticky substance like hot glue! Be careful with the temp and stir constantly, so it doesn’t burn!
2. We also provide the “house lots” – for this we simply cut squares of cardboard and cover them in foil.
Day of Event
3. Set your tables with festive tablecloths. My tablecloths are all vintage that I have collected over the years.
Then place the lots and house pieces out on the tables. I usually have at least 3 tables.
4. I make the “mortar”. The littles use the mortar to put their houses together and add the very important candy toppings! My mortar recipe: powered sugar, cream of tartar and water. Make sure it is on the thick side!
5. Lay out empty candy dishes on all the tables. I ask each family to bring a bag of candy to share.
6. Make hot cocoa and coffee for the guests and provide healthy snacks like fruit! Don’t worry about the kids, trust me, they are getting plenty of sweets as they all snack as they build.
Hope this post will help inspire YOU to have a gingerbread house party with your family and friends!!
