It’s been quite some time since I have shared a back to school boys capsule wardrobe. This is part one of the series, you can see part two by clicking here.
Last week, I also shared this post and this post about a girls capsule wardrobe.
School mornings stressing you out? You can create a lot more simplicity by creating a back to school capsule wardrobe for your boys. The idea of taking a smaller number of clothing items and mixing them into several outfits have a lot of appeal for several different reasons.
Especially for boys, so they don’t have to spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning. This is also a great way to decrease the amount of laundry that you’re washing at any given time. The more clothes they have, the more opportunity to keep dirtying stuff without washing it.

What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe, if you haven’t seen them all over social media, is an intentional wardrobe method. It contains clothing that can all coordinate. Typically, capsule wardrobes are also minimalist wardrobes because they contain only what is necessary and little if anything else.
This is especially great for kids because:
- Fewer choices means everything coordinates so picking outfits is easier.
- There is much less to clean, fold, and put away so room cleaning is easier.
- Less clothing means less laundry.
What items should we select for our capsule?
Here are a few foundational items I suggest when making a capsule wardrobe for your daughter.
- 1 pair of well-fitting jeans
- 2 pairs of pants (1 neutral, 1 color)
- 2 pairs of shorts (1 neutral, 1 color)
- 3 t-shirts (2 solid 1 print)
- 1 polo shirt
- 1 long sleeve henley
- 1 long sleeve button up
- 2 pairs of comfortable shoes. (1 “safe” 1 creative)
- 1 pair of sandals
- 1 hat
- 1 jacket (neutral color goes with everything)
- Backpack
