I hope you have been able to see my other House posts? I have shared my “Fun Room” and my Dining room and Kitchen.
Today I present to you my teenage boys room! Boys deserve well designed rooms just as much as the rest of the family and although they may not act like they appreciate it they will be glad you put effort into their room.
My son is thankfully pretty tidy and likes Modern and Minimalism . I wanted to give him a room that would meet those requirements and still fit in the the interior design of the rest of our home.
It started with the bed. He used to have a twin bunk bed in his younger days. Well this past summer I had to sleep in it one evening… I was shocked how firm and uncomfortable his mattress was. SO the next day I started looking for a new bed for him! I also got him a memory foam topper for the mattress. Now I know his bed is nice and comfy and teens need their sleep.
Then I started piecing all the other items together, I shopped at HomeGoods, Ikea, Target, Pottery Barn Teen, and assorted other stores. I think most people are too cautious with their decor. Buy what you like, buy that fun piece, buy color and patterns and textures as those all take a room from a room to a woo room! Do NOT worrying about “matching” matching is boring. Yes the items should work together… If you are new to this you could select a palette of four or five colors and purchase items in that scheme. But have fun and purchase those OMG pieces.
I layered his floating shelves with pieces that were HIM. Things he has acquired over the years and sentimental pieces. You also want your kids personalities in their rooms. My last piece of advice is build the room slowly or it will be too matchy and not have character. Buy pieces as you see them. Okay I hope you are enjoying my home series. I will list all the sources below.
